Military Provenance | Built To Specification. Proven Through Service.

Military Provenance

A military watch is not defined by style, but by requirement. Every element, from the dial layout to the movement and strap, exists to meet a specific function.

For over five decades, CWC has produced watches designed to meet the demands of military use. This experience has shaped a clear approach: prioritising legibility, reliability, and serviceability above all else.

Issued models developed to Ministry of Defence specifications have been used across a range of environments, where durability and clarity are essential. These constraints are not just historical details, they continue to influence how every CWC watch is designed and built today.

What Defines Military Issue

A genuine military-issued watch will typically include:

  • Official Ministry of Defence specification
  • Issue markings and serial numbers
  • Broad arrow (government property mark)
  • NSN (NATO Stock Number) where applicable
  • Fixed strap bars and specification-driven construction

These features exist to ensure traceability, durability, and standardisation in service.

What Military Provenance Is Not

Military provenance should not be confused with:

  • Watches designed in a "military style"
  • Commercial models inspired by issued designs
  • Homage products replicating military aesthetics

While these may resemble issued watches, they are not manufactured to specification or supplied for operational use.

CWC and Military Supply

Since 1972, CWC has supplied watches to the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, and specialist units including the Special Boat Service.

CWC watches are built to specification and have been used in operational environments over multiple decades. This continuity of supply places CWC in a distinct position within modern watchmaking, as a manufacturer with direct and ongoing links to military service.

Military provenance is earned through specification and service, not design.
